Sony to fight PS3 imports26/10/2006 Sony to fight PS3 imports
Sony has promised to use the full scope of the law to prevent its new PlayStation 3 model being imported into the UK before its official release date. The long awaited console will go on sale in Japan and the US next month, but UK gamers will have to wait until 2007 to get their hands on the PS3. A precedent has already been set with a ruling by a British judge last week, forbidding the Hong Kong import/export firm Lik-Sang from selling the PS3 in the Europe. Speaking to the BBC, a spokesman for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe confirmed Sonys stance on the issue: The law is clear, and grey importing PS2, PSP or PS3 into the EU, without the express permission of SCEE is illegal. Therefore we will utilise the full scope of the law to put a stop to any retailers who chose to do this. The PS3 will be released in the US on November 17th and November 11th in Japan. The European release is scheduled for March 2007. |
