Sony puts back PS3 release until 200714/09/2006 It was announced on Wednesday that only 500,000 PlayStation 3s would be available at launch on November 17. 400,000 will be released in North America and 100,000 in Japan. The European market debut will be delayed until 2007, with Sony missing out on the lucrative Christmas season. The news of the delay has damaged Sony’s sales forecasts, with Reuters confirming that Sony Computer Entertainment President, Ken Kutaragi, has announced that the company has lowered its worldwide 2006 shipment target from 4 million to 2 million. However, since then, Sony reps have insisted that the initial estimates still stand. The delay in Europe will leave the Christmas market open for the Sony’s competitors, Microsoft and Nintendo. Microsoft can look forward to another clear December to sell the Xbox 360 and Nintendo will have better chance of establishing it’s soon to be launched Wii console. |
