Microsoft address Xbox compatibility fears

Microsoft has moved quickly to allay fears that the Xbox 360 will stop adding to the list of original Xbox games that can be played on the original console. An entry was placed on the Gamerscore blog (written by employees of the Microsoft Games Global Marketing Team) to reassure gamers that backwards compatibility work is ongoing.

This follows comments made by Xbox chief Peter Moore during an interview with Kikizo.com, which were interpreted by many gaming sites as signalling an end to backwards compatibility:

“Nobody is concerned anymore about backwards compatibility. We under promised and over delivered on that.”

Despite the work that had already taken place, Moore believed that it was not a project that would be seen through to the very end:

“More are coming, but at some point, you just go, there’s enough, lets move on, or people aren’t as worried about a game being backwards compatible”

Many gamers have taken this to mean that Microsoft have gone back on it’s alleged initial commitment to make every Xbox game compatible on the Xbox 360. However, the Gamerscore blog stated that it believed that there were too many people interested in having their old games compatible with their new console for them to finish development on the programme.

A new update with a dozen titles to add to the compatibility list will soon be available to download, according to Gamescore.
