Nokia N-Gage

The first version of the Nokia N-Gage was launched in October 2003. Since then, the handheld gaming and mobile telecommunications console has steadily found popularity amongst gamers who like to play the latest video games while on the move, with the added advantage of it also serving as a highly functional mobile telephone.

In 2004, Nokia launched an updated version of the N-Gage, the N-Gage QD, with an improved, smaller design and more functions including Bluetooth. This most recent model of the N-Gage weighs just 143 grams, is 118 mm long, 22 mm high, and 68 mm wide. With online gaming, email, and a host of features associated with a well-equipped mobile phone, the N-Gage serves as a complete, pocket sized personal entertainment and communications system.

Features of the Nokia N-Gage include:

  • Audio and Visual Playback

You can use your Nokia N-Gage to play back music, and even watch animations or film clips on the 4096 colours LCD screen.

  • N-Gage Arena

N-Gage Arena enables N-Gage users to communicate, download gaming content, access games ranking statistics, and participate in events. This is facilitated by the N-Gage Arena launcher – software preinstalled on the Nokia N-Gage console.

  • Global Connectivity

The Nokia N-Gage console can send and receive emails, send and receive multi media content, and has an instant messaging facility. With Bluetooth, the N-Gage supports multiplayer gaming and data sharing. The N-Gage can send and receive data with a PC or other telephones, through wireless connectivity.

  • Data Speed and Battery Life.

Through GPRS, the N-Gage can transfer up to 40.2 KB, enabling gamers to swiftly access the latest Java based games. Battery life is up to 5 hours for telephone calls, up to 10 hours for gaming, and 240 hours on standby.

  • Accessories

Accessories for the N-Gage include: a ‘snap on' speaker for enhanced gaming and audio playback; wireless headsets and carry cases.

  • Extensive Choice of Games

A main advantage of the Nokia N-Gage games console is that most of the top games titles available on the larger consoles are also developed for mobile gaming via the N-Gage. Whatever type of game you prefer, there is something for you, including:

  • Shoot-em-ups (like Ashen)

  • Action and adventure (like Rayman 3)

  • Racing games (like Colin MacRae Rally 2005)

  • Fighting games (like ONE)

  • Sports games (like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater)

  • Strategy games (like Civilisation)

  • Arcade games (like Atari Masterpieces Vol. I and II)

An added benefit is that the Nokia N-Gage will automatically pause a game if the telephone rings.
