Memory Cards for Games Consoles

A memory card is one of the most essential accessories you need when playing a games console. Memory cards allow you to save your games, so that you can come back to them whenever you want and just start playing the game where you left off.

There are a number of different types of memory card available. However, most games console manufacturers encourage you to buy their official memory cards, as other brands can sometimes be less reliable.

Here are some of the different types of memory card currently on the market:

Memory Cards for the PS2

Official Playstation 2 Memory Card

Sony's official PS2 memory cards come in a range of colours including Satin Silver, blue and aqua. You can store up to 8MB of data on them. The 16MB Max Memory Card

The 64MB Max Memory Card

The 64MB Max Memory Card from Datel allows you to save 64MB of games and data from your PS2, giving you four times as much storage space as the Official Sony PlayStation 2 Memory Card.

Memory Cards for the X-Box

XBox Official Memory Unit

Although the Microsoft XBox features an internal hard drive, the X-Box Official Memory Unit allows you extra portable storage space for your saved games. The Microsoft XBox Official Memory Unit simply plugs into compatible XBox controllers which have memory expansion slots in them. This means that you can save your games on your own XBox, take the memory unit to a friend's house and continue playing the game on their XBox.

The Thrustmaster Xbox Memory Unit

The Thrustmaster XBox Memory Unit from Guillemot is an officially licensed memory unit which is compatible with all XBox controllers. It allows you to store 8MB of saved games.

The 8Meg XBox Memory Pack

The 8Meg XBox memory pack from Radica provides you with 8MB of storage space so that you can save your XBox games, and also comes with a links cable so that you can link up two XBox consoles and two televisions so that you can play XBox games against someone else.

The Xbox 16MB Memory Card

The Xbox 16MB Memory Card from Datel allows you to save 16MB of games and data from your XBox, giving you twice as much storage space as the Official XBox Memory Unit.

The Official XBox 360 Memory Unit

The Official XBox 360 Memory Unit from Microsoft allows you to save up to 64MB of games or data from your XBox Live profile. You can store 128MB of data with your XBox 360, as it has room for two memory units. The Official XBox 360 Memory Unit is portable, and comes with a carrying case which you can attach to your key ring so that you can take it with you and continue playing games on your friends' XBoxes.

The Official X-Box 360 Hard Drive

The Official XBox 360 Hard Drive from Microsoft allows you to save a whopping 20GB of saved games or XBox Live profile data. It comes with pre-loaded content including music, videos and even an XBox Live Arcade Game, and allows you to play a selection of original games. You can also use your XBox 360 Hard Drive to save music and create our own play-lists, making the Official XBox 360 Hard Drive a must for all serious gamers.

Sony 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo (MSX-M1GS) has a storage capacity of 1GB with 940MB free for you to use for your data.

Sandisk Gaming Memory Stick PRO Duo (128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1GB)

The Sandisk Gaming Memory Stick PRO Duo is a re-usable memory card which allows you to store games, music and videos for use on your Sony PSP. It is available in four different memory size versions.
